App & MVP development

App development: test your idea in weeks

wunderwerk builds your app as an MVP in 4 to 8 weeks, tests it with real users and then develops it further.

  • 80+ projects
  • 5.0 on Google
  • Clients for 10+ years
  • EU & GDPR first
  • Directly with the managing director

Where are you with your app idea right now?

wunderwerk starts wherever your app idea stands, whether it is a napkin sketch or a finished concept. A clickable prototype takes a few days, an MVP for real users 4 to 8 weeks.

Validate your app idea

“We have an idea, but we don't know whether it will work.”

Within a few days we build a clickable prototype, and within 4 to 8 weeks an MVP with the core features. Real users test it, and you decide based on results whether to expand, adjust or stop.

The digital twin of your business

A digital twin is a virtual copy that runs on real data. That is exactly what your app becomes for your race, your store, your club or your device. Everything that matters is live in one place, and your customers, members or technicians act on it right in the app.

Races & events

Participants live on the map via GPS, plus schedule, start lists and results. Spectators follow along, the organising team sees every position. Our GPS live-tracking app for hard enduro races shows what that looks like.

  • Live tracking
  • Results

Store & branch

Product range, stock, opening hours, offers and customer card: on your customers' phones, your store is always open, even after closing time.

  • Customer card
  • Stock

Club & community

Members, dates, fees and news in one place. Instead of spreadsheets, group chats and unpaid transfers, everyone sees what is coming up and pays right in the app.

  • Members
  • Payments

Device & machine

Real-time status, remote control, fault alerts and maintenance reminders: connected via IoT, the app shows what your device is doing right now. Your service team knows before the customer calls. More on industrial software.

What your own app does for you

Your app is your direct line to your customers: on their home screen, with your logo, without going through platforms and ads. Figures from retail show how naturally customers use it.

72 %

have retailer apps on their phone

Almost three in four smartphone users in Germany have at least one grocery retailer's app installed, up from 58 % a year earlier. Your customers are used to apps.

66 %

use the customer card or loyalty programme

Two thirds of these app users use the digital customer card or a loyalty programme in them. Customer loyalty that comes along with every purchase.

49 %

shop more often because of the app

And 50 % buy more, according to a retailer app study. Repeat visits happen when the app gives a reason: offers, points, service.

A direct channel instead of ad spend

A push notification reaches your customers directly, without paying for ads for every contact or giving a commission to a marketplace.

Data & insights

You see which offers, products and features land, with consent and GDPR-compliant. So you decide based on real usage instead of gut feeling.

Relieve your service team

Appointments, stock, receipts and answers to common questions as self-service in the app. Fewer routine requests, more time for real advice.

Sources: Bitkom, representative survey of 1,138 smartphone users in Germany, press release of 4 February 2025 (72 %, 58 % the year before; 66 % of grocery retailer app users); Simon-Kucher, retailer app study 2024 (49 %, 50 %).

Service apps customers enjoy using

Customers keep a service app when it helps them in everyday life, for example with a customer card, in-store stock or reminders. Two examples from retail show which features those are, and they carry over to almost any business.

The app of a large DIY store chain

“I plan at home and find the right shelf in the store straight away.”

  • Project planner with a materials list for the next DIY project
  • Product finder with aisle and shelf in the store
  • Stock per branch, before the customer sets off
  • Digital customer card with purchase history and receipts
  • Guides and videos for doing it yourself

The app of a pet supplies chain

“The app knows my dog and reminds me before the food runs out.”

  • Pet profile with species, breed and age
  • Bonus points on every purchase, in store and online
  • Personal offers that match the pet
  • Reminders to reorder, or as a subscription
  • Advice on nutrition, care and health

Building blocks for your service app

We combine what fits your business and connect your POS, inventory management, shop or CRM. To start, two or three building blocks in the MVP are often enough.

  • Digital customer card
  • Loyalty programme
  • Appointment booking
  • Product finder
  • In-store stock
  • Purchase history & receipts
  • Push offers
  • Advice for pets, home & projects

Gamification: reasons to come back

Points, challenges and badges turn an app people install once into one they open every week. Used well, gamification rewards exactly the behaviour that helps your business: visits, purchases, referrals, training sessions.

Collect points

For purchases, visits, reviews or referrals. Every point is a reason to open the app again next time.

Challenges & campaigns

Time-limited goals like “3 workshops this autumn”, “5 training sessions a month” or “every checkpoint on the course” bring customers back on purpose.

Levels & badges

Visible progress from newcomer to regular. Higher levels unlock perks, badges make achievements visible and shareable.

Streaks

Anyone who takes part several weeks in a row builds a streak and doesn't want to break it. Ideal for training, care, learning or regular shopping.

Redeem rewards

Discounts, free products, exclusive events or a better starting position: rewards that mean something to your customers and protect your margin.

What research says

A widely cited review of empirical studies shows positive effects of gamification, but they depend greatly on the context and on the users. That is why we test game elements in the MVP with real users before you invest in building them out.

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

At wunderwerk, the cost of an app depends on four things: the feature set, the platforms (iOS, Android, web), the integrations with existing systems and the standards for design and user experience.

That is why we don't quote a flat price, but give you a transparent cost range before every step. The first stage is deliberately small: an MVP with the features real users need. You invest step by step and decide after each step whether to continue.

How we keep costs down

  • MVP scope instead of the full build

Together we cut everything that isn't needed for the first test. What users really want comes in the next stage.

  • One codebase for iOS, Android and web

With React Native and modern web technologies, the app is built once and runs on all platforms instead of being developed three times.

  • AI-assisted development

Our wunderbots take over routine work in code, tests and documentation. More for the same budget, faster to market.

  • Factor in funding

Many app and digitalisation projects qualify for grants. In a free funding check, we clarify with you which programme is open now.

How does app development work?

wunderwerk develops your app in five steps: initial consultation, concept with a clickable prototype, MVP in 4 to 8 weeks, testing with real users, then build-out, launch and operation. Every step has a clear outcome, and you decide after each step whether to continue.

  1. 1

    Initial consultation

30 minutes with the Managing Director: your idea, your target group, your budget. You get an honest assessment of whether and how the app can be built. Free and non-binding.

  2. 2

    Concept & clickable prototype

Within a few days: user flow, core features and a clickable prototype you can show to customers and partners. Plus the MVP scope and a transparent effort estimate.

  3. 3

MVP in 4 to 8 weeks

We develop the first usable version in an agile, AI-assisted way. You see progress every week, get test versions on your phone or in the browser and give feedback directly.

  4. 4

    Testing with real users

The MVP goes to your first customers, staff or pilot partners. Usage, feedback and metrics show what works. You decide based on results, not assumptions.

  5. 5

    Expansion, launch & operation

We develop the app into a production-ready version, publish it on the App Store, Google Play or the web and, if you wish, remain your technology partner for maintenance and further development.

AI writes code. We build software.

Thanks to wunderOS and our wunderFactory.

AI has opened up programming to everyone: anyone can put a prototype together today. Whether it turns into software that holds up in day-to-day operation is decided afterwards – in architecture, security, testing and maintenance over the years. That is exactly where prompting and real expertise part ways.

That is why we built our own operating system: wunderOS runs our company from sales to development. At its heart is the wunderFactory, where our AI agents, the wunderBots, build to the architecture rules, standards and tests from 20 years of software development – led by experienced software architects.

The result is software built noticeably faster and more affordably – in the quality you hire us for. We are AI experts and use that to get the best out of your project.

AI-generated

More software for the same budget

The wunderBots handle the routine work. You pay for architecture, decisions and results – not for legwork.

Live in weeks, not months

From the workshop to the first usable version, with changes after that in days. You see early on what works.

Quality is built in, not bolted on

Tests, reviews and security checks run automatically in the wunderFactory with every change – not just when there is time.

Architects, not prompters

The AI executes, we decide: data model, interfaces, operations. That way your software stays maintainable and extensible five years from now.

Bottom line: Bespoke software on terms that make sense for SMEs too – built with AI, with software architects accountable for it.

How much will it cost?

Get your non-binding cost estimate for your web, app, software, IT or AI project right away:

Everything that comes with your app

An app is more than a few screens. As an app agency, wunderwerk delivers the whole package: iOS and Android app from one codebase, web app and backend, integrations, design, store publication and operation.

iOS & Android from one codebase

With React Native, the app feels native on iPhone and Android but is only built once. Camera, GPS, push notifications and offline mode included.

Web app & backend

The web version for browser and desktop, plus the backend with database, user management and admin area shared by the mobile app and the web app.

Integrations with ERP, shop & CRM

The app works with your existing systems: orders, customer data, payments and logins are connected via interfaces (APIs) instead of being maintained twice.

Design & user experience

Clear flows that users understand without instructions. We design the interface and user experience (UX/UI) so that people enjoy using the app, whether customers, staff or members.

Publication & operation

App Store, Google Play, hosting in the EU, monitoring and updates: we take the app live and keep it running, with maintenance and further development for as long as you want.

Open technologies & docs

Widely used technologies such as TypeScript, React and React Native, cleanly documented. So your app doesn’t depend on individual developers.

Not just clients. Partners.

We focus on long-term partnerships. You stay flexible thanks to open standards and clear documentation.

We had the wunderworkers develop bespoke industrial software for creating recipes for a highly sensitive industrial process.

The collaboration was extremely professional from the outset: the team quickly understood our complex requirements, implemented them precisely and always paid close attention to maximum reliability and security. I would particularly like to highlight their technical know-how, clean documentation and fast response times for questions or change requests.

The recipe editor is now running in several plants in Sweden, Italy and the Czech Republic.

The software runs reliably, is intuitive to use and our customers are completely satisfied. We can recommend wunderwerk without reservation!

Ready to test your app idea?

Napkin sketch or finished concept: in a 30-minute initial consultation we clarify what your MVP looks like, what it costs and when the first users will be working with it.

Frequently asked questions about app development

Your question isn't listed? We will answer it directly with the Managing Director in the free initial consultation.

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

At wunderwerk, the cost of an app depends on the feature set, the platforms (iOS, Android, web), the integrations and the design standards, which is why there is no flat price. You receive a transparent cost range before every step and start with a deliberately small MVP, so you safeguard your investment step by step. You can get an initial estimate for your project via the cost calculation or in the free initial consultation.

What is an MVP (Minimum Viable Product)?

An MVP is the first version of an app with only the features real users need to experience its core benefit. Instead of spending months building everything, you test with a manageable budget whether users adopt the product, and only then invest in expanding it. wunderwerk develops MVPs as mobile apps, web apps or desktop applications, usually in 4 to 8 weeks.

I have an app idea. How do I make it happen?

Ideally in three steps: sharpen the idea and target group, build a clickable prototype and test it on the market with an MVP. wunderwerk supports you from the very first conversation: in the initial consultation we give the idea an honest review, within a few days a clickable prototype takes shape, and within 4 to 8 weeks an MVP for your first users. You need neither technical knowledge nor a finished concept.

How long does it take to have an app developed?

At wunderwerk, a clickable prototype is usually ready within a few days, and an MVP with the core features after 4 to 8 weeks. The production-ready version with all features, integrations and store publication takes three to six months, depending on scope. You see progress every week and receive test versions continuously.

Native app, web app or both? iOS and Android?

For most projects, wunderwerk recommends one React Native codebase for iOS and Android, complemented by a web app if users also need the application on their computer. It feels native but costs considerably less than two separate apps. A pure web app is enough if you need neither a store presence nor deep device features. We clarify which option suits your target group in the initial consultation.

Can you build AI features into the app?

Yes. wunderwerk builds language models, image and document recognition into apps from the start, for example chat with your own data, automatic analysis of photos and receipts, or text suggestions. The models run GDPR-compliant with hosting in the EU, or on-premise if you prefer. Find out more on our AI consulting for businesses page.

Is the app GDPR-compliant, and where is the data stored?

Yes, wunderwerk builds data protection into every app from the start instead of retrofitting it. The backend and user data are hosted in the EU, or on-premise or in your own cloud if you prefer. Roles and permissions, consent for analytics and push notifications, data processing agreements and deletion concepts are part of the project. See secure software development for how wunderwerk builds security in from the start.

We already have a prototype built with Lovable, Cursor or a freelancer. Can you take it over?

Yes, after a paid technical analysis. wunderwerk reviews the code, architecture, security and rights to the source code and shows whether the prototype can be developed into a production-ready app or whether a rebuild is more economical. We see a quickly built prototype as a legitimate first step, not a mistake.

How does publication on the App Store and Google Play work?

wunderwerk takes care of the submission, the store listings with texts and screenshots, the review communication with Apple and Google, and updates. We set up the developer accounts in your name. With TestFlight and internal test groups, you get a version on your phone every week while the app is still in development.

Is there funding for app development?

Yes, many app and digitalisation projects qualify for grants, depending on country, region, company size and project. However, KMU.DIGITAL, the Austrian SME programme, no longer accepts new applications and will not continue from 2027. In a free funding check, wunderwerk shows you which programmes are available for your project now.

Do you continue to support the app after launch?

Yes. wunderwerk supports you from the idea to ongoing operation, with hosting in the EU, monitoring, maintenance, updates for new iOS and Android versions and further development with new features. We have been looking after many of our clients for more than ten years.

Why choose wunderwerk as your app agency from Austria?

wunderwerk is a small, well-coordinated team of software architects, full-stack developers and AI engineers in Tyrol, Salzburg, Vienna and Berlin with more than 20 years of project experience and 80+ projects, among them a learning app with over 30,000 users and a GPS live-tracking app for hard enduro races. Unlike with a freelancer, your app doesn't depend on one person; unlike with a large agency, there is no overhead; and you speak directly with the Managing Director. We work for start-ups and companies in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, remotely and on site.
