Where does your energy project stand right now?
Whether you are an energy supplier, a municipal utility, a manufacturer of energy technology, an energy start-up or a PV installer: these are the four situations we hear most often in initial consultations. We meet you where you are.
What energy software actually does
Six use cases that energy suppliers, manufacturers and installers typically start with. Each can be implemented on its own and later combined into one platform.
Off-the-shelf software or your own solution?
For many tasks there is ready-made energy software, and often it is enough. If a standard solution is cheaper for you, we will tell you so openly in the initial consultation.
Custom software pays off when it is part of your business model and not just a tool.
- The software is part of your offering
Your calculator, your portal or your energy management is part of your product, under your brand and with your pricing logic.
- Devices and systems have to work together
Inverters, batteries, wallboxes, smart meters, ERP and billing exchange data via interfaces instead of Excel exports.
- Rules and tariffs change all the time
EAG, EnWG, energy sharing, dynamic tariffs: your software is adapted when requirements change, without waiting for a vendor update.
- Energy data stays in the EU
Consumption data is personal data. We host GDPR-compliant in the EU, or in your own infrastructure if you prefer, and rely on open standards so you stay independent.
Energy transition software we have built
Two workpieces from our practice, both live in production. We are happy to show you further projects, for example from industry, in the initial consultation.

How your energy software takes shape
No big project into the unknown. Every step has a clear outcome, and you decide after each step whether to continue.
- 1
Initial consultation
Directly with the Managing Director: business model, systems, data sources and goals. You get an honest assessment of whether custom software makes sense for you or a standard solution is enough. Free and non-binding.
- 2
Analysis & concept
We clarify data sources and interfaces (smart meters, inverters, grid operators, ERP), legal requirements and processes. The result: a concept with priorities, a cost range and an assessment of when the software will pay off for you.
- 3
MVP, pilot or proof of concept
We implement the most important part first, for example with one system, one energy community or one customer group. You see early on whether the solution works in everyday use and decide based on real data.
- 4
Expansion & integration
More features, connection to billing, CRM and ERP, roles and permissions, an app for customers or members. In short steps with regular test versions.
- 5
Operation & further development
Hosting in the EU, monitoring, maintenance and support. When laws, tariffs or devices change, we adapt the software. Software that lasts instead of throwaway software.
AI writes code. We build software.
Thanks to wunderOS and our wunderFactory.
AI has opened up programming to everyone: anyone can put a prototype together today. Whether it turns into software that holds up in day-to-day operation is decided afterwards – in architecture, security, testing and maintenance over the years. That is exactly where prompting and real expertise part ways.
That is why we built our own operating system: wunderOS runs our company from sales to development. At its heart is the wunderFactory, where our AI agents, the wunderBots, build to the architecture rules, standards and tests from 20 years of software development – led by experienced software architects.
The result is software built noticeably faster and more affordably – in the quality you hire us for. We are AI experts and use that to get the best out of your project.
What you get out of it:
- More software for the same budget
The wunderBots handle the routine work. You pay for architecture, decisions and results – not for legwork.
- Live in weeks, not months
From the workshop to the first usable version, with changes after that in days. You see early on what works.
- Quality is built in, not bolted on
Tests, reviews and security checks run automatically in the wunderFactory with every change – not just when there is time.
- Architects, not prompters
The AI executes, we decide: data model, interfaces, operations. That way your software stays maintainable and extensible five years from now.
Bottom line: Bespoke software on terms that make sense for SMEs too – built with AI, with software architects accountable for it.

AI-generated.

Why us?
Ready for software that drives your energy transition?
Energy management, energy community, calculator or portal: in the free initial consultation we clarify what your solution needs to do, roughly what it costs and what the first step looks like.
Frequently asked questions about software for the energy transition
Your question isn't listed? We will answer it directly with the Managing Director in the free initial consultation.
How much does custom software for the energy transition cost?
It mainly depends on scope, interfaces and data volumes: a PV calculator is quicker to build than an energy management system that controls devices and processes data from several grid operators. That is why wunderwerk starts with a clearly defined first step (MVP, pilot or proof of concept) and gives you a transparent cost range before every step. The initial consultation is free, and you can get a first estimate via the cost calculation.
What is energy management software?
Energy management software (EMS) records generation and consumption, for example of a PV system, battery, heat pump and wallbox, analyses the data and controls the devices so that as much self-generated electricity as possible is used and load peaks are reduced. Companies also use it for energy monitoring and reporting. wunderwerk develops energy management software for manufacturers, energy suppliers and service providers who want to offer it to their customers or build it into their own products.
What software does an energy community in Austria need?
An energy community (EEG or BEG) needs management of members and metering points, the grid operator's energy data from the EDA data exchange, allocation by distribution key and billing that is correct for VAT purposes. For a single community, ready-made solutions are often enough. wunderwerk develops custom software for energy suppliers, municipalities and service providers that manage many communities, have their own tariffs and processes or want to offer the solution under their own brand.
What does energy sharing in Germany mean for software?
Since June 2026, distribution system operators in Germany have had to enable energy sharing technically under § 42c EnWG: electricity from a renewable energy system is shared with consumers in the same balancing area. This requires software for participant management, allocation of meter readings and billing, similar to tenant electricity and shared building supply. wunderwerk develops such solutions for energy suppliers, municipal utilities and project developers that are building energy sharing as an offering of their own.
Can you connect smart meters, inverters, batteries and wallboxes?
Yes. wunderwerk connects devices and data sources via their interfaces: manufacturer APIs and clouds, protocols such as Modbus, MQTT and OCPP, and data from grid operators and smart meter portals. Where there is no clean interface, we work out in the concept phase which approach is reliable and maintainable before any development starts.
How long does development take?
At wunderwerk, a first usable version is ready early, after a few weeks to months depending on scope and interfaces. We start with an MVP, pilot or proof of concept and then expand in short steps with regular test versions. That way you see tangible benefits early instead of waiting for one big finish.
Is energy data safe and GDPR-compliant with you?
Yes. Consumption data from smart meters is personal data, and wunderwerk treats it as such: hosting in the EU, on-premise or in your own cloud if you prefer, roles and permissions, encryption and deletion concepts. We develop to current security standards and build in data protection from the start instead of retrofitting it.
Can existing systems such as ERP, CRM or billing be integrated?
In most cases, yes. Right at the start, wunderwerk checks which systems can sensibly be integrated and connects them via clean interfaces. If systems are outdated or cause security or data protection problems, it can make more sense to replace them with a clear overall solution. We discuss this openly before any development starts.
Who is custom energy software suitable for?
For energy suppliers, municipal utilities and grid operators, manufacturers and providers of energy technology, energy start-ups, municipalities and service providers working with energy communities, as well as larger PV, battery and heat pump installers. In other words, for anyone whose offering includes software or whose software connects complex processes. In the initial consultation, wunderwerk will also tell you openly if a standard solution is a better fit.
What happens when laws or tariffs change?
Then your software is adapted. wunderwerk supports software over many years: maintenance, updates and adjustments to new requirements such as the EAG, the EnWG or new tariff models are part of it. Because we know the code and work with open standards, changes remain predictable and you stay independent.
Is there funding for energy transition software projects?
Yes, digitalisation projects in Austria, Germany and Switzerland are funded through various programmes, depending on country, region, company size and project; in Austria, for example, through KMU.DIGITAL, the Austrian funding programme for SMEs. wunderwerk runs an initial funding check with you and shows which options are available for your project.
Why wunderwerk for energy transition software?
Because we support the energy transition out of conviction and have been building software that works for more than 20 years. Among other things, wunderwerk developed the solarmaker PV calculator with more than 15,000 system plans and the thenks energy transition platform. You speak directly with the Managing Director and get consulting, development and operation from a single source, from a well-coordinated team in Tyrol, Vienna and Berlin.
