Your software partner in Germany
wunderwerk builds apps and software for companies all over Germany, with an office in Berlin and its head office in Tyrol, Austria: the same language, the same time zone, one contract within the EU single market and servers in Germany. You work with a small development team, not a call centre.
Our software architects Andreas Schäfer and Sven Knittel work in Berlin. We hold kick-offs and workshops at your premises, in Berlin or wherever your company is based in Germany; in between, we coordinate in remote meetings.
You talk directly to the managing director and to the developers who build your software. A small, well-practised team with more than 20 years of project experience and 80+ projects, without agency overhead and without depending on a single freelancer.
We develop with AI support and our own AI agents. That saves time in every project, which is why custom software pays off for mid-sized companies too. A first usable version is usually ready after 4 to 8 weeks.
Your contractual partner is wunderwerk software GmbH in Austria: invoices in euros, net of VAT for businesses under the reverse-charge mechanism. Your software runs on servers in Germany, at Hetzner or on our own; GDPR and a data processing agreement included.
App development in Berlin: iOS & Android
wunderwerk builds iOS and Android apps, web apps and desktop applications for start-ups and companies in Berlin and across Germany. We start with an MVP (minimum viable product) in 4 to 8 weeks, test it with real users and then build it into the finished app, up to publication in the App Store and on Google Play.
- iOS and Android from one codebase
Cross-platform with React Native: it feels native and costs less than two separate apps.
- Web apps, portals and backend
The web app for the desktop, the backend and the interfaces to ERP, CRM or shop come from the same team.
- Launch, operations and updates
Store submission, hosting in Germany, monitoring and updates for new iOS and Android versions.

A current example: RED RaceControl, an app by wunderwerk that tracks participants of outdoor sports events live via GPS.

Software development for German SMEs
Besides apps, wunderwerk builds custom software and web applications, customer portals, SaaS products and AI solutions with process automation for German companies. Six industries we know well:
Shop-floor apps, recipe and batch software, machine data and integration with MES and ERP. Our recipe software for an industrial process runs in plants in Sweden, Italy and the Czech Republic.
Product configurators with pricing logic and quote PDFs, B2B portals for dealers, integration with your shop and inventory system. For thecurtain.shop we build and maintain the configurators for made-to-measure curtains.
Person location and wander protection for care homes, management software for 24-hour home care as SaaS. Every location query logged, data on your servers or in Germany.
From MVP to SaaS product with a trial period, subscription billing and multi-tenancy, and operations that grow with your users. A learning platform we run has more than 30,000 users.
Software for energy suppliers, municipal utilities and installers: energy sharing, tenant electricity, PV calculators, charge management and billing. Our PV calculator solarmaker has produced more than 15,000 plans.
Locate vehicles, containers and equipment via GPS, LoRaWAN or cellular, connected to your systems and self-hosted on your servers instead of someone else’s cloud.
Not just clients. Partners.
We focus on long-term partnerships. You stay flexible thanks to open standards and clear documentation.
Your team. Your wunderworkers.
We are deliberately not a large agency, but not a lone freelancer either. We are a small, close-knit team of experienced software architects, full-stack developers and AI engineers with over 20 years of project experience.
Unlike freelancers, we offer resilience, team know-how and clean documentation, so projects stay stable in the long run and do not depend on any single person. Unlike large agencies, we work efficiently, quickly and at fair prices, without overhead or unnecessary rounds of meetings.

Frequently asked questions from Germany
Your question isn’t listed? We’ll answer it directly with the managing director in a free initial consultation.
Does wunderwerk have an office in Berlin?
Yes. wunderwerk software GmbH has an office in Berlin, where our software architects Andreas Schäfer BSc and Sven Knittel Dipl.-Ing. work. Our head office is in St. Ulrich am Pillersee in Tyrol, Austria, with further offices in Salzburg and Vienna. For companies in Berlin and across Germany we build apps, web applications, custom software and AI solutions, remotely and with meetings at your premises.
How much does it cost to have an app or software developed in Germany?
It depends on the scope: features, platforms (iOS, Android, web), interfaces and the state of your data determine the effort, which is why wunderwerk doesn’t quote a flat price. Before the project starts you receive a transparent effort estimate in euros, and you start with a clearly defined first phase such as a prototype or MVP, usually in 4 to 8 weeks. Because we develop with AI, custom software pays off for mid-sized companies too. You can get an initial estimate via the cost calculator or in a free initial consultation.
How long does it take to have an app built?
At wunderwerk a clickable prototype is usually ready within a few days, an MVP with the core features after 4 to 8 weeks. The production-ready version with all features, interfaces and store publication takes three to six months, depending on scope. You see the progress every week and get regular test versions on your phone.
wunderwerk is an Austrian company. How do contracts and invoices work for German businesses?
Your contractual partner is wunderwerk software GmbH, based in Austria (VAT ID ATU75674218), so a company within the EU single market: quotes and invoices in euros, in German or English. To businesses in Germany we usually invoice net of VAT; your company owes the VAT as the recipient of the service (reverse charge, Section 13b of the German VAT Act) and, with full input tax deduction, deducts it again in the same return. Customs and exchange rates play no part.
Do you come to us on site, in Berlin and elsewhere in Germany?
Yes. We like to hold the kick-off, workshops and the rollout to your team at your premises, in Berlin as well as in other regions of Germany. In between, we coordinate in a weekly remote meeting and show you test versions regularly. How often we come on site is planned in the project according to your needs.
Native app, cross-platform or web app: what do we need?
For most projects wunderwerk recommends one React Native codebase for iOS and Android, plus a web app if users also need the application on a desktop. It feels native but costs considerably less than two separate apps. A pure web app is enough if you need no store presence and no deep device features. We clarify which option fits in the initial consultation.
How does a project with wunderwerk work?
A project with wunderwerk starts with a free initial consultation directly with the managing director. Within a few days you get a first concept and a transparent effort estimate, followed by development with regular test versions, the go-live with training for your team and, if you wish, maintenance and further development. You deal with the same people in every phase.
Where is the software hosted, and is it GDPR-compliant?
wunderwerk hosts on servers in Germany, at Hetzner or on our own servers. On request we run your software on premises or in your own cloud. Roles, permissions and logging are part of the architecture from the start, and we plan the data processing agreement and deletion concepts with you.
Is there funding in Berlin or Germany for app and software projects?
That depends on the federal state, company size and project, and programmes change often. In Berlin, the Digitalprämie Berlin and the Berliner InvestitionsBONUS no longer accept applications, according to IBB Business Team (as of November 2026). We look at which programmes are currently open for your project together in a free initial consultation; the decision always lies with the funding body.
Do you look after the app and software after go-live?
Yes. wunderwerk runs and maintains software after go-live too, with monitoring, maintenance, updates for new iOS and Android versions and new features. We have been looking after thecurtain.shop for our German client Lars Leppin for more than ten years, and we have worked with many other clients for just as long.
Can you take over an app or software built by another provider?
Yes, after a paid technical and commercial analysis. wunderwerk reviews code, architecture, security, documentation, operations and the rights to the source code and shows whether the system can be stabilised and developed further or whether a rebuild is more economical. This also applies to prototypes built with Lovable, Cursor & co. More under software modernisation and vibe coding takeover.
We look forward to your project. Tell us about it.
30 minutes, directly with the managing director, free and non-binding. Afterwards you’ll know whether and how we can build your app or software, roughly what it costs and when we’ll come to see you.
