Tracking solutions from Austria, self-hosted & GDPR-compliant

Asset tracking with LoRaWAN & GPS on your servers

You want to know where machines, tools, vehicles or people are right now, but the location data must not sit in a tracker vendor’s cloud? We develop your tracking solution with LoRaWAN, GPS, cellular or Bluetooth: running on your infrastructure, connected to LDAP and your systems, with a complete audit log of every location request.

  • 80+ projects
  • 5.0 on Google
  • EU & GDPR first
  • Initial consultation directly with the Managing Director – free & non-binding

What do you want to track?

Every tracking solution starts with two questions. What needs to be found where, and who may see the data? Four starting points with which companies and organisations come to us.

Machines, tools & containers

“Every week we search for equipment that really ought to be here.”

Asset trackers with GPS, LoRaWAN or Bluetooth report location and movement, even on large factory sites and construction sites without mobile coverage. You see on a map what is where, and get an alert when a device leaves its zone.

  • Tool tracking
  • Geofencing

Protecting people

“Our residents should move about freely without us having to search for them for long in an emergency.”

For care homes, support services and social institutions: wearable GPS or LoRaWAN trackers whose location is only requested when there is a legitimate reason. Every request is logged, and the data stays in-house. That is how it has worked for years at Innsbrucker Soziale Dienste.

  • People tracking
  • Care
  • Audit logging

Vehicles & logistics

“Where is the forklift, and when will the delivery arrive?”

Track forklifts, vans and deliveries in real time and analyse trips and usage times, without a cloud provider in between. Position data and usage logs stay under your control and flow straight into your ERP or control room.

  • Vehicle tracking
  • Real time
  • Control room

Your own tracking platform

“The off-the-shelf tracker app doesn’t fit our processes, and our data must not leave the building.”

We build the software that brings your trackers, gateways and sensors together: your own interface, roles via LDAP or Active Directory, integrations with ERP, emergency software and intranet. On-premise or in your private cloud, offline-capable if required.

Where your own tracking solution pays off

Six fields of application from industry, care, healthcare and events. We choose the radio technology according to site, building and battery life.

Care & support facilities

People in need of care or living with dementia wear a GPS or LoRaWAN tracker. In an emergency, staff find them quickly. In everyday life their location stays protected, because every request needs a reason and is logged.

Asset tracking on the factory site

Locate machines, containers and load carriers on large sites, even in remote areas without mobile coverage. Your own LoRaWAN network covers the site, and the trackers run for a long time on one battery.

Tools & construction machinery

Who has the measuring device, where is the excavator? Small trackers on tools and construction machinery show the last known location and send an alert when a device leaves the site or warehouse unexpectedly.

Vehicles & forklifts

Forklifts, vans and delivery vehicles on the map in real time, with trips, idle times and a usage log. You process the data locally and pass it on to dispatch or your ERP.

Hospitals & buildings

Locate medical equipment, wheelchairs or emergency call systems inside the building, with Bluetooth beacons, UWB or LoRaWAN. With the right radio technology, tracking works reliably even in complex building structures.

Sporting events & outdoor events

Follow participants in races and outdoor events live via GPS: an app with background tracking, offline buffering when the signal is weak and a map for the organisers. We are currently developing such an app for hard enduro races.

Tracking software in care

Tracking software that has been running for years

For Innsbrucker Soziale Dienste GmbH we developed an intranet solution that gives people in need of care more freedom of movement. In an emergency, it determines the person’s location via GPS or LoRaWAN devices.

  • Self-hosted on the intranet

All data stays on the organisation’s own servers.

  • Location requests only with a reason

Every request is logged and traceable.

  • In use at several facilities

A client for over 7 years, version 2 is in progress.

“Our requirements were implemented perfectly, and the GPS tracking system has now been in successful use at several of our facilities for a number of years.” Andreas Flöck, Head of IT Project Management, Innsbrucker Soziale Dienste GmbH

How we build your tracking solution

Test first, then roll out. Before you buy a hundred trackers, a pilot with real devices on your site shows you how accurate and reliable the tracking is.

  1. 1

    Initial consultation

30 minutes with the Managing Director: what needs to be tracked, where, how often, and who may see the data? You get an honest assessment of which radio technology is suitable and whether a bespoke solution is worthwhile. Free and non-binding.

  2. 2

    Workshop & concept

We clarify use cases, site and buildings, radio technology and hardware, the data protection and permissions concept, and the integration with your systems. The result: a concept with a cost framework on which you base your decision.

  3. 3

Pilot in 4 to 6 weeks

The first trackers, your own gateway if needed, and working software on your infrastructure. You test in live operation, check range, accuracy and battery life, and decide based on results.

  4. 4

    Rollout & integration

Expansion to all devices and locations, integration with LDAP or Active Directory, ERP, control room or emergency software. We train your team in use and administration.

  5. 5

    Operation & further development

Maintenance, updates and new devices or features as needed. Software that lasts: your tracking solution stays maintainable and operable for years.

AI writes code. We build software.

Thanks to wunderOS and our wunderFactory.

AI has opened up programming to everyone: anyone can put a prototype together today. Whether it turns into software that holds up in day-to-day operation is decided afterwards – in architecture, security, testing and maintenance over the years. That is exactly where prompting and real expertise part ways.

That is why we built our own operating system: wunderOS runs our company from sales to development. At its heart is the wunderFactory, where our AI agents, the wunderBots, build to the architecture rules, standards and tests from 20 years of software development – led by experienced software architects.

The result is software built noticeably faster and more affordably – in the quality you hire us for. We are AI experts and use that to get the best out of your project.

What you get out of it:

  • More software for the same budget

The wunderBots handle the routine work. You pay for architecture, decisions and results – not for legwork.

  • Live in weeks, not months

From the workshop to the first usable version, with changes after that in days. You see early on what works.

  • Quality is built in, not bolted on

Tests, reviews and security checks run automatically in the wunderFactory with every change – not just when there is time.

  • Architects, not prompters

The AI executes, we decide: data model, interfaces, operations. That way your software stays maintainable and extensible five years from now.

Bottom line: Bespoke software on terms that make sense for SMEs too – built with AI, with software architects accountable for it.

AI-generated.

How much will it cost?

Get your non-binding cost estimate for your web, app, software, IT or AI project right away:

Location data that stays in-house

Location data shows where people and assets are. That is why your tracking solution can run entirely on your own infrastructure: no forced cloud, no third-party APIs, no data leaving your hands.

For us as a team from Austria, that is the norm: EU & GDPR first.

  • On-premise or private cloud

Servers, database and your own LoRaWAN network run under your control. No external cloud provider is needed.

  • LDAP and Active Directory

Sign-in with existing accounts, roles and groups from your directory. When staff change, permissions update automatically, and accounts are not maintained twice.

  • Access control and audit logging

Location requests only for a legitimate reason, every access is logged in full, and transmission is encrypted.

  • Offline-capable and easy to integrate

The system keeps working locally when the internet goes down and synchronises afterwards. Integrations with ERP, control rooms, emergency software and intranet.

LoRaWAN, GPS or Bluetooth: which fits?

The right technology depends on where tracking takes place, how often a device transmits and how long the battery has to last. We select trackers, gateways and sensors for your use case and combine them where needed.

LoRaWAN

Long-range radio with very low power consumption, ideal for devices that transmit rarely and should run for a long time on one battery. With your own gateways (e.g. Kerlink Wirnet iStation, Milesight UG65, Dragino DLOS8) you operate your own network, with no ongoing SIM costs.

GPS & cellular

For vehicles and devices that travel far beyond your site: GPS position, transmitted via the mobile network (GSM, LTE, NB-IoT). No radio infrastructure of your own needed, but one SIM per device.

Indoor: Bluetooth, UWB & more

Inside buildings, GPS is not enough. Bluetooth Low Energy beacons, UWB (ultra-wideband), RFID or Wi-Fi RTT locate devices and people in halls, clinics and care homes, depending on the accuracy required.

Personal tracker with emergency button

Personal trackers

Compact devices with an emergency button and GPS and LoRaWAN support, e.g. Abeeway Micro Tracker, Oyster3 GPS or Quectel LC79D.

Asset tracker for tools and machines

Asset trackers

Long-life trackers for tools, machines or containers, e.g. Dragino LGT-92, Digital Matter Yabby Edge or RAK7200, via GPS, LoRaWAN, cellular or BLE.

Indoor beacon for locating things inside buildings

Beacons & sensors

Beacons for indoor positioning, plus temperature, motion and door/window sensors for smart building and industrial applications.

Ready for a tracking solution that belongs to you?

Whether it’s a first idea or a concrete use case: in a 30-minute initial consultation we clarify which radio technology fits, what a pilot looks like and how your data stays in-house.

Frequently asked questions about tracking solutions

Your question isn’t here? We’ll answer it directly with the Managing Director in a free initial consultation.

What is a self-hosted or on-premise tracking solution?

A self-hosted tracking solution runs entirely on your own infrastructure instead of in a tracker vendor’s cloud. Servers, database and analytics sit in your data centre or private cloud, and the location data never leaves your organisation. wunderwerk develops such solutions with their own interface, roles and audit logging, tailored to your processes.

How much does a bespoke tracking solution cost?

It depends mainly on four things: the number and type of trackers, radio technology and coverage (such as your own LoRaWAN gateways), the scope of the software, and integrations with your systems. The initial consultation is free; after that, wunderwerk gives you a transparent cost framework before every step, and you start with a pilot rather than a large-scale project. With your own LoRaWAN network there are no ongoing SIM costs. You can get a first estimate via the cost calculator.

LoRaWAN or GPS with cellular: which is better?

It depends on the use case. LoRaWAN is an energy-efficient, long-range radio network, ideal for devices that send data rarely and should run for a long time on one battery; with your own gateways you operate your own network. GPS with cellular suits vehicles and devices that travel far beyond your site. Inside buildings, Bluetooth beacons or UWB are added. wunderwerk chooses the technology according to site, building, transmission frequency and battery life, and combines them where needed.

Which GPS and LoRaWAN trackers can be used?

Depending on the use case: personal trackers with an emergency button, asset trackers for tools, machines and containers, vehicle trackers, and gateways and sensors for temperature, motion or opening. Examples include Abeeway Micro Tracker, Oyster3 GPS, Dragino LGT-92, Digital Matter Yabby Edge and RAK7200, with Kerlink Wirnet iStation, Milesight UG65 or Dragino DLOS8 as gateways. wunderwerk integrates the devices into your own network without passing data to third parties.

Does tracking also work inside buildings?

Yes, with the right technology. GPS barely works indoors, so for indoor positioning wunderwerk uses Bluetooth Low Energy beacons, UWB (ultra-wideband), RFID or Wi-Fi RTT, depending on the accuracy required, for example in hospitals, care homes or production halls. LoRaWAN is well suited to transmitting data out of complex building structures.

Can people tracking be GDPR-compliant?

Yes, if purpose, legal basis and access are properly defined, and the technology helps with that. wunderwerk builds tracking solutions so that all data stays on your servers, location requests are only made for a legitimate reason, every access is logged in full and roles are controlled via LDAP or Active Directory. You clarify the legal assessment of your use case, for instance when tracking employees, with your data protection officer; we provide the technical measures.

How does the LDAP integration work?

The tracking platform uses your existing user directory (LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory). Employees sign in with their usual account, roles and groups determine who may see which locations, and when staff change, permissions update automatically. wunderwerk sets up the integration so you don’t have to maintain accounts twice.

Can the tracking solution work offline?

Yes. If required, wunderwerk designs tracking systems to keep working locally when there is no internet connection. Data is cached and synchronised automatically as soon as the connection is restored. This suits isolated networks and sensitive environments; mobile tracking apps also buffer positions when the signal is weak.

Why not just use Traccar, ThingsBoard or a tracker subscription?

In many cases an off-the-shelf platform is enough, and we will tell you so in the initial consultation. A bespoke solution from wunderwerk pays off when tracking is part of a process: when roles, audit logging and reason checks are mandatory, when data needs to flow into ERP, control room or emergency software, when several radio technologies come together, or when the interface has to fit your team and not the other way round.

How quickly can a tracking project start?

At wunderwerk, first working prototypes or pilot installations are usually possible within 4 to 6 weeks. We start with an initial consultation and workshop, define goals and use case, and then implement the pilot with real devices, step by step and transparently.

Is there funding for tracking and IoT projects?

Yes, digitalisation projects in Austria, Germany and Switzerland are funded through various programmes, depending on country, region, company size and project. wunderwerk carries out an initial funding check with you and shows which options are available for your project. The easiest way is in a free initial consultation.

Why wunderwerk for tracking solutions?

Because our tracking software has been running in day-to-day use for years: the GPS tracking system for Innsbrucker Soziale Dienste is in use at several facilities, and we have been working together for over seven years. We are also currently developing a GPS tracking app for hard enduro races. wunderwerk is a small, well-coordinated team in Tyrol, Vienna and Berlin with over 20 years of experience in custom software. You speak directly with the Managing Director and get concept, software, integration and operation from a single source.
