Custom software for SMEs in Austria, Germany and Switzerland

Custom software and web applications made to measure

Your processes don’t fit any off-the-shelf software, and the rest runs on Excel, retyping and e-mails? We develop web applications, portals and business software that fit exactly how your company works: integrated with your existing systems, first version in a few weeks, hosting in the EU.

  • EU & GDPR first

Where custom software makes the difference

Most projects don’t start with an idea for software, but with a process that takes too much time. Does this sound familiar?

Replace Excel and Access

“Our most important process depends on a spreadsheet that only one colleague really understands.”

Spreadsheets, Access databases and paper notes become a web application with one shared database, roles, audit log and reports. Everyone works with the same data, on the road too.

  • Replace Excel
  • Replace Access

Off-the-shelf software doesn’t fit

“We pay licences for a system we work around every single day.”

For the part of your business that sets you apart, we build custom software. Where standard software is enough, it stays, and we connect the two.

Internal tools for your team

“Planning, scheduling and approvals run on e-mail and shouting across the office.”

Tools for planning, scheduling, approvals and documentation in the browser: orders, appointments, resources and documents in one place, with clear responsibilities.

  • Web app

  • Approvals

Bring in customers and partners

“Our customers call to ask about things they could look up themselves.”

In a portal, customers and partners order and book themselves, track orders and download documents, with your data from ERP and CRM.

  • Customer portal
  • Partner portal
  • Self-service

Connect systems

“Every day we type the same data into three different programs.”

Connect ERP, CRM, shop, accounting and specialist software via interfaces, so every piece of information is entered once and is correct everywhere.

  • Automation

Software for production

“The ERP plans, but it doesn’t cover the decisive step in production.”

Recipes, batches, machine data and special processes in custom software, connected to plants, MES and ERP.

Custom or off-the-shelf? An honest answer.

We don’t recommend custom software because we build it. In the initial consultation we check which route pays off for you, and we tell you when standard software is enough.

Custom software pays off when …

  • Your process sets you apart

Standard software only covers it with workarounds, side lists or manual work.

  • Excel, Access or paper carry the business

Important data sits in files that few people understand and nobody secures.

  • Systems don’t talk to each other

The same data is typed into several programs, errors included.

  • Licences grow with every head

Per-user costs rise with your team, the benefit doesn’t.

Standard software is enough when …

  • Your process is industry standard

Good off-the-shelf software solves it with a little configuration.

  • You need an online shop

There are mature shop systems for that; custom development rarely pays off.

  • It’s only about introducing a standard product

A partner of that vendor does this better.

Not sure which applies to you? That’s exactly what we clarify in the free initial consultation.

How your software comes to life

No 80-page specification and no months without results. You commission each phase separately and decide afterwards whether to continue.

  1. 1

    Initial consultation

30 minutes with the managing director: which process costs you the most time today, which systems are involved, what would a good result look like? You get an honest assessment of whether custom software pays off. Free and non-binding.

  2. 2

    Workshop & prototype

We look at your processes with the people who work with them every day, find the biggest levers and decide together: replace, complement or stay with the standard. Result: a clickable prototype, a first goal and a cost framework.

  3. 3

First version in 4 to 8 weeks

We develop the smallest version that delivers real value in day-to-day work, with real data and the interfaces it needs. Your team works with it, we measure and adjust.

  4. 4

    Operation & growth

Hosting in the EU, maintenance, updates and support. Then the next features, prioritised by what your team needs day to day. We have supported some of our clients this way for more than ten years.

AI writes code. We build software.

Thanks to wunderOS and our wunderFactory.

AI has opened up programming to everyone: anyone can put a prototype together today. Whether it turns into software that holds up in day-to-day operation is decided afterwards – in architecture, security, testing and maintenance over the years. That is exactly where prompting and real expertise part ways.

That is why we built our own operating system: wunderOS runs our company from sales to development. At its heart is the wunderFactory, where our AI agents, the wunderBots, build to the architecture rules, standards and tests from 20 years of software development – led by experienced software architects.

The result is software built noticeably faster and more affordably – in the quality you hire us for. We are AI experts and use that to get the best out of your project.

What you get out of it:

  • More software for the same budget

The wunderBots handle the routine work. You pay for architecture, decisions and results – not for legwork.

  • Live in weeks, not months

From the workshop to the first usable version, with changes after that in days. You see early on what works.

  • Quality is built in, not bolted on

Tests, reviews and security checks run automatically in the wunderFactory with every change – not just when there is time.

  • Architects, not prompters

The AI executes, we decide: data model, interfaces, operations. That way your software stays maintainable and extensible five years from now.

Bottom line: Bespoke software on terms that make sense for SMEs too – built with AI, with software architects accountable for it.

AI-generated.

Software that works with your systems

Custom software must not become a new silo next to your ERP and CRM. That’s why it uses your existing data instead of copying it.

For us as a team from Austria, this is not an extra option but standard practice: EU & GDPR first.

  • Integrated with ERP, CRM, shop and specialist software

Master data, orders, prices and documents come from your systems via interfaces (APIs). What works well there stays; the new software complements it instead of copying it.

  • Open technologies, clearly documented

Open, widely used technologies such as TypeScript, React, Next.js and Laravel, clearly documented. No per-user licence, no dependence on a website builder or a single developer.

  • Roles, permissions and audit log

Everyone sees and changes only what belongs to their role. Approvals, audit logging and tenant separation are part of the architecture from the start, not a later rebuild.

  • Hosting in the EU, GDPR-compliant

Operation in the EU, on-premise or in your own cloud on request. We plan data processing agreements, the privacy policy and deletion concepts right from the start.

We had the wunderworkers develop bespoke industrial software for creating recipes for a highly sensitive industrial process.

The collaboration was extremely professional from the outset: the team quickly understood our complex requirements, implemented them precisely and always paid close attention to maximum reliability and security. I would particularly like to highlight their technical know-how, clean documentation and fast response times for questions or change requests.

The recipe editor is now running in several plants in Sweden, Italy and the Czech Republic.

The software runs reliably, is intuitive to use and our customers are completely satisfied. We can recommend wunderwerk without reservation!

Which process costs you the most time?

Tell us about it. In a 30-minute initial consultation, we clarify whether custom software pays off for you, what the first step looks like and roughly what it costs.

Frequently asked questions about custom software development

Your question isn’t listed? We’ll answer it directly with the managing director in a free initial consultation.

How much does custom software development cost?

It depends on the scope, above all on the number of processes, roles and systems to integrate. At wunderwerk you commission each phase separately: initial consultation (free), workshop with prototype and cost framework, then a first version that is usable day to day after 4 to 8 weeks of development. So you know what each step costs before it starts. You get a first estimate via the cost calculator or in the free initial consultation.

How long does it take to have software developed?

A clickable prototype is usually ready within a few days; wunderwerk develops a first usable version covering the most important process in 4 to 8 weeks, depending on scope. After that the software grows in short steps, prioritised by what your team needs day to day. It is in use from the first version, not only after months.

Custom or off-the-shelf software: which is better?

Off-the-shelf software is better when your process matches the industry standard and per-user licence costs are acceptable. Custom software pays off when the process sets you apart from competitors, several systems have to work together or spreadsheets carry the business. Often the best solution is a combination: standard for the usual, custom software for what is special, connected via interfaces. wunderwerk tells you honestly in the initial consultation which route fits.

Can you replace our Excel or Access solution?

Yes. wunderwerk moves data and logic from spreadsheets and Access databases into a web application with one shared database, roles, audit log and reports. We plan the switch so that operations continue: the most important process first, with your existing data migrated.

Why a web application instead of classic desktop software?

A web application runs in the browser on any device, without installation and without updates at each workstation. Everyone works with the same data, on the road too, and new features are available to everyone immediately. Where offline operation or device features are needed, wunderwerk adds a mobile app.

Can the software be integrated with our ERP, CRM or accounting?

Yes. wunderwerk connects custom software via interfaces (APIs) with ERP, CRM, shop, accounting, DMS and specialist software, so data is maintained in one place only. If a legacy system lacks an interface, we find a way during the analysis, for example via database access or export and import. More under process automation and interfaces.

Is the software GDPR-compliant and where is it hosted?

wunderwerk hosts in the EU, on-premise or in your own cloud on request, and builds roles, permissions and audit logging into the architecture from the start. We plan data processing agreements, deletion concepts and data protection with you. For us as a team from Austria, EU & GDPR first is standard practice.

Do you also take over existing software?

Yes, after a technical and economic analysis. wunderwerk reviews code, architecture, security and the rights to the source code and shows whether the existing software can be continued or whether a new build is more economical. More under software modernisation and vibe coding project takeover.

Which companies do you develop custom software for?

For small and medium-sized businesses in Austria, Germany and Switzerland that have a process costing too much time and are ready to invest in a lasting solution. Typical contacts are managing directors and owners, often together with IT management and the business department. For pure online shops or the introduction of standard software we are not the right partner, and we say so.

Is there funding for custom software?

Many digitalisation projects are eligible for funding programmes, depending on country, region, company size and project. In Austria, for example, KMU.DIGITAL. wunderwerk runs a first funding check with you and shows which options apply to your project.

Why wunderwerk as a partner for custom software?

Because for more than 20 years we have been building software that lasts: more than 80 projects, many of them in use for years and continuously developed further. wunderwerk is a small, well-coordinated team of software architects, full-stack developers and AI engineers in Tyrol, Vienna and Berlin. You talk directly to the managing director and get concept, development and operation from a single source.
